As someone who is half Indian and half White, I have struggled to find where I belong within these different cultural identities. Against the backdrop of my very American upbringing, in this body of work I reconnect with my Indian culture and carve out my own space where I belong, somewhere in between. Half of the works in this series center around ways my Indian culture already enters my life in ways I didn’t notice before, whether that is food, fashion, or my facial features. The other half focuses on blending Western realism with motifs and stylism of traditional Indian miniature paintings, mirroring my journey to find my own identity as a mixed person.
